Characterising epiphytic macroalgae on Sargassum fallax in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, Tasmania (Honours project)

This project aims to characterise the biodiversity of epiphytic macroalgal assemblages in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel using traditional taxonomy and molecular techniques. As part of this work, the following aims will be addressed:

  1. Quantify biomass of epiphytic algal species across the Channel
  2. Evaluate spatial and temporal variation in the diversity and biomass of epiphytic assemblages
  3. Make recommendations for the future monitoring of these communities

This Honours project is being completed through IMAS and a studentship with CSIRO and is funded through a partnership with the Pennicott Foundation as part of the larger 'Reef health in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel' project.
